# Model tools

agh can open 3D models in Blender for you, so a reviewer doesn't have to. Model tools come with the **Studio** and **Enterprise** plans. They read `.glb`, `.gltf`, `.fbx` and `.obj` files.

## Model checks

When an artist delivers a model, agh checks it in the background and puts the result on the review card, beside the file:

- **Triangles**, against the spec's budget, such as `triangles=8000`
- **Size**, against a `height` spec in metres, and whether the model was exported at the wrong scale
- **Textures** the materials use that aren't in the file
- **Normals** that point inward, and **open edges** where the mesh has holes
- **Animation clips** in the file

Each line is marked as a problem, a warning or fine. A check takes about a minute. If it fails, **Retry check** runs it again. The check stays with the file after it is accepted.

## Reduce to spec

When a model has more triangles than its spec allows, **Reduce to 8,000…** on the checks card opens the reduce dialog. Pick a target triangle count, from 10% to 100% of the model. **Keep UV seams and sharp edges** protects silhouettes and creases. agh reduces the model in Blender. The reduced copy then replaces the delivery and keeps the artist's provenance, and the delivered original stays in the asset's history. **Undo** puts the original back while the model still waits for review.

Coding agents can do the same with the `reduce_model` MCP tool.

## Render from a model

Open PNG image requests have **Render from a model** for reviewers. Pick an accepted model, then:

- **Icon**: one frame of the model.
- **Sprite sheet**: 1, 4 or 8 directions as rows. Each row holds the frames of an animation clip as columns.

Choose a top, isometric or side camera, the frame size (by default the request's `size` spec divided by the sheet's grid), and a transparent background. The render is delivered to the request as "Blender render of" the model, carries the model's provenance, and is reviewed like any other delivery.

Coding agents can use the `render_from_model` MCP tool.

## Plans

Model tools run Blender on agh's servers, so they are part of the Studio and Enterprise plans. On other plans, models are delivered and reviewed as usual, without checks, and the review card links here. To upgrade, [ask us](/support).

A local `agh serve` has every model tool when `AGH_BLENDER_PYTHON` names a Python that has `bpy` installed.
